Introduction
LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Station Casinos LLC has filed a lawsuit against a company that claimed to provide live keno results. The Las Vegas-based gaming company accused Jason Cox and his company, 702media.net, of trademark infringement. Don’t forget Mega-Keno throughout Nevada and the Jumbo at the Station Casinos. Playing a keno progressive has a feature in common with a video poker or video keno progressive, you can figure the odds when you’re ready to play, unlike many slot progressives.
Live keno can be successful in all casinos. The trick is proper marketing and knowledgeable personnel. First, the keno lounge should be easily visible and well signed from all areas of the casino. Every Keno ticket MUST be PLAYED and winnings COLLECTED at the Boulder Station Casino, Las Vegas Nevada. The numbers posted are not OFFICIAL until all 20 numbers are drawn and VERIFIED as correct. Any dispute will be decided by the numbers shown on the ACTUAL Keno balls drawn. Play Like a Local. The Greens offers an incredible array of Henderson slots in an inviting atmosphere. With the friendliest team members in town and the chance to rack up points on your Station Casinos Boarding Pass every time you play—here, you’ll find all of the gaming offerings you’re seeking, minus the hassle, high prices, and crowds.
Note: The page addresses the conventional keno game, known as Spot Keno, where the player picks 1 to 20 numbers from 1 to 80 and the game draws 20 balls. There are links to keno variants towards the bottom of the page.
Keno is a simple game of luck, much like most lottery games, where the player chooses numbers and hope as many as possible match those randomly drawn by a hopper or machine. The simple form with no multipliers or extra balls is called Spot Keno and is addressed on this page. See the Internal Links section below for many keno variants.
There are two formats for playing keno: live and video. In live keno, the player uses a crayon and paper to indicate his picks. Every few minutes numbers will be a live draw from a hopper filled with numbered balls. In video keno, the player touches a screen, sometimes using a wand, to pick numbers and the machine does the draw randomly.
Like most games of pure luck, the odds in keno are pretty poor. Keep reading to learn more about the rules and how much you can expect to lose on the game.
Rules
Following are the rules for basic keno:
- The player makes a wager and indicates which numbers he wishes to pick. The picks are made on a slip of paper in live keno and by touching the screen in video keno. The range of numbers the player may pick from is 1 to 80.
- The number of picks the player may make depends on the game itself. Usually the range is 2 to 10 or 1 to 15.
- The game will randomly choose 20 out of 80 balls.
- If the game chooses a number the player chose that is known as a 'catch.' The player is paid according to the number of balls he catchs.

Following are some common video keno pay tables found mostly on Game Maker machines. The bottom row shows the expected return.

Surveys
In 2001 I did a survey of every live keno casino game in Las Vegas. The returns ranged from 65% to 80%. In other words, the house edge was 20% to 35%, making live keno among the worst bets you can make in Las Vegas.
In 2012 I did a similar survey of live keno in Laughlin, which showed a range of return of 50% to 74%.
In 2008 I did a survey of video keno in San Diego. The returns ranged from 84% to 95%.
In 2017 I redid my Las Vegas video keno survey, which can be found at Wizard of Vegas.
Advice
If you must play keno, the only skill is choosing where to play to play and then how many numbers to choose. It makes no difference which numbers you choose. Contrary to popular myth, legitimate keno games, like those in Las Vegas, are fair and every ball has a 1 in 80 chance of being drawn each game. To determine the odds of any keno game you can use my keno calculator. Just put in the pay table and you will see how much you can expect to get back every bet.
However, I tend to think anybody who would take the trouble to analyze the game is probably not playing it in the first place. The odds in video keno are about as bad as slot machines. If you want to lose a lot less money gambling I would highly recommend converting to video poker. For live keno players, I would suggest converting to bingo.

Scouting Guide
When you're in the casino it would take a long time to put in every pay table through my many calculators above to determine the best game to play. That is why I created two printer-friendly guides you can print out and take with you:
- My Keno Scouting Guide is a short reference to the best available game for any pay table for all the most popular forms of keno. Each game has a table showing the possible pick-10 pay tables available and the best number of picks for that game and its return. See the last page of the guide for a full explanation how to use it.
- My Full Pay Table Report is a longer guide showing every known pay table for all the major keno games and their associated return. For those who want to know the return for any number of picks, not just the best number (which the Keno Scouting Guide provides).
For a printer-friendly document showing keno pay tables and returns for several major keno games please see my Keno Scouting Guide (PDF). Perfect for printing and taking to the casino to find the best game and pay table available.

If you’re going to play Keno, you’ll want to play at the best keno casinos and get the most out of your keno dollars. There are a number of things to consider like playing games that may have better pay tables than others, the amenities of the casino, and the available limits. Often it simply comes down to value and the keno casino experience that you enjoy.
Pesach Kremen, who writes for Gaming Today suggests the following casinos for what he feels are the best values for particular locations.
LAS VEGAS DOWNTOWN: The D, El Cortez, California.
LAS VEGAS STRIP: Excalibur.
Sunset Station Live Keno
OFF STRIP (locals): Gold Coast, The Orleans, Sams Town, Palace Station, Boulder Station.
RENO/SPARKS: The Atlantis, Peppermill, Rail City, Nugget.
The casinos mentioned above have reasonable to very good games, significant comp programs, and lots of good ticket options. In Northern Nevada The Atlantis smokes the competition with their More to the Meter Progressive, top-notch hotel and restaurants, and some of the best customer service to be experienced. Sue Chau is an exceptional keno manager and oversees their 24/7 game. You’ll love the excitement of playing their 9-spot progressive which is now over $1.1M as of this writing; if you happen to be in the area be sure to give it a try!
In downtown Las Vegas, The D offers the best return for lower level play in their Deano rate, averaging an 85% return. The California is a great keno casino and has one of the friendliest and professional keno manager’s in Las Vegas – Carolyn Bankston; if you happen to be a rated player, ask for Robyn Cordova to be your host. You’ll find that The California also offers great tournaments and generous comps for reasonable play.
The famous El Cortez offers 10 different Keno rates, including Mega-Keno. A very good host to contact is, Nords Malilay, who is very attentive to the needs of the players. Not only is El Cortez a great keno casino, it has some of the most liberal table games and video poker in the downtown area. Many regular players agree that it is perhaps the best overall place to gamble in Southern Nevada.
Station Casino Live Keno Las Vegas
You won’t go wrong if you make The Orleans your keno casino. It has a good game, excellent tournaments, and another great keno manager, Annette Dearinger. Comps for keno players are pretty good as well. Sue Grossman runs a good keno game at The Gold Coast with two weekly mini-tournaments available to qualifying players.
The point is that there are plenty of good places to play that really do appreciate your play. You’ll also find courteous and friendly casino employees as well who will help you enjoy your time playing the game.
If you are new to keno, just find the keno casino that you like, take a comfortable seat in the keno lounge and pick up the keno pay book. In it you will find suggestions, game rules and, often, how to play “way” tickets. If you have questions, ask the writers, they will be glad to answer them.
Invest in a keno book available at The Gambler’s Book Club/General Store in Vegas or online through your favorite bookseller.
Don’t forget Mega-Keno throughout Nevada and the Jumbo at the Station Casinos. Playing a keno progressive has a feature in common with a video poker or video keno progressive, you can figure the odds when you’re ready to play, unlike many slot progressives.
Station Casinos Live Keno
So come on and play. What are you waiting for? The 9-spot at Atlantis is over $1.1M and the Mega10 is approaching $2M Good luck!
